Glitzy yarn: Heart of Darkness

I’ve been working on another yarn for two evenings now, and I quite like it. It’s hard to see in the photos, but it’s Brittany’s fiber mixed with the shiny, red/brown glitz.

See the red sparklies?

The trick to Brittany’s fiber is a really, really tight twist. So I think I’ll spin it twice, once actually spinning fiber into yarn, and the second time to add more twist. This should give it a nice look when it’s plied, and will also add elasticity, I think.

The single, so far. Hard to see the glitz, which may be good, because it looked like a lot in the box!

Of course, their fiber is different every year, so figuring it out now doesn’t guarantee future success. Diet, age, stress, and all sorts of things factor in to the quality of the fiber. This year, our fiber is ridiculously strong and glossy.

About cliffhousealpacas

Once upon a time, my dad drove by some funny looking animals standing on little dirt hills in a field. Thus, the dream of an alpaca ranch was born. Now, we are embarking on a grand adventure of raising alpacas and becoming fiber artists.
